SW↗SCOTT MICHAEL WILSON
DESIGN / INSTALLATION / DECOMMISSIONING

Work history.

From concept to reality.
From equipment to execution.

Selected projects I’ve worked on across offshore construction, spar decommissioning, heavy-lift equipment, and commissioning.

Heerema Marine Contractors

Engineering responsibilities in riser and umbilical abandonment, offshore jacket and topside installation, and weight reconciliation for spar removal.

Ongoing

Gunnison Spar Removal

Lead engineer for riser and umbilical abandonment.

  • Preparing and reviewing abandonment procedures, lowering sequences, and project-specific rigging drawings.
  • Coordinating ROV requirements and engineering interfaces with vessel operations.
2025–2026

Empire Wind 1

Offshore execution for jacket and topside installation, working closely with client representatives.

  • Oversaw jacket loadout in Malaysia.
  • Wrote transit manuals.
Spar removal

Genesis spar removal

Oversaw weight reconciliation for the Genesis spar-removal project, supporting removal engineering and lift planning.

2022–2023

Neptune spar removal

Oversaw weight reconciliation for the Neptune spar-removal project, supporting removal engineering and lift planning.

Huisman

Progression from mechanical design into commissioning, troubleshooting, and operational support for offshore and specialist equipment.

Inspection program

Offshore drone inspection program

Contributed to the development of an offshore drone inspection program for crane condition assessment. The program reduced inspection time and improved inspection coverage by enabling detailed visual assessment of areas difficult to access using conventional methods.

2018–FEB 2020

Disney Galaxy’s Edge

Ride-equipment installation and commissioning at Walt Disney World and Disneyland.

  • Oversaw installation quality and provided design and component feedback to the engineering team.
  • Trained Disney personnel on maintenance and repair, and supported the initial attraction opening.
2017

Helix Q4000

Well-intervention vessel drive-system upgrade and recommissioning.

  • Replaced legacy Siemens drive and control equipment with Vacon drives and active front ends.
  • Commissioned the drawworks and SCADA systems and performed client acceptance tests.
2017

Royal IHC / Gulliver

Drive-system commissioning for the twin 2,000-tonne shearleg arrangement.

  • Brought drive systems into operation and supported boom and main-hoist reeving.
  • Troubleshot equipment issues during commissioning.
2013–2016

Heerema DCV Aegir

Huisman equipment support during worldwide operations, including INPEX Ichthys and Anadarko’s Lucius field.

  • Supported the 4,000-tonne offshore mast crane, 2,000-tonne pipelay tower, and heave-compensated abandonment-and-recovery winch system.
  • Commissioned the 1,500-tonne hang-off module and performed client acceptance tests.
  • Handled hydraulic and ABB drive troubleshooting, equipment upgrades, operator training, and operational support.
2011–2013

Noble Globetrotter I & II

Initial commissioning, troubleshooting, and repair of Huisman drilling and handling systems.

  • Worked across offshore and gantry cranes, pipe rackers, drawworks, heave compensation, riser tensioning, and drilling interfaces.
  • Commissioned retractable-thruster systems during vessel construction.
MAY 2010–OCT 2011

Huisman US

Mechanical concepts, detailed design, production drawings, and structural verification.

  • Projects included a 440-tonne heave compensator, 180-tonne deep-sea lowering winch, and 80-tonne pipelay equipment.
  • Used ANSYS and hand calculations for mechanical and structural checks, weld calculations, and lifting and installation plans.
  • Coordinated with engineering in the Netherlands and production in China.

Earlier career

2009

Halliburton Drill Bits & Service

Dynamic-seal testing for roller-cone drill bits; test-rig operation, measurement, maintenance, and reporting.

2007–2008

Texas A&M Turbomachinery Laboratory

Design, fabrication, instrumentation, and operation of a high-speed thrust-bearing test rig, including SolidWorks modelling and LabVIEW programming.

2005–2006

Chicago Bridge & Iron

Four-axis CNC plasma cutting and fabrication of carbon- and stainless-steel water-tank shell plates and components.
